Beirut or Broadgate?
Posted on October 23rd, 2009 1 commentThat’s according to telegraph.co.uk’s Jonathan Russell’s opinion on the state of crime in London:
An article in the greatly undervalued and generously over-punctuated Badge – billed as “the voice of the London cab driver’s club” – reports that traffic wardens, sorry civil enforcement officers, are now too scared to patrol certain City streets after 7pm.
In Beirut, they do patrol the city but don’t really seem to get much done:
A LLB certificate is on the way.

“Something Out of Downtown Beirut”
Posted on May 11th, 2009 4 commentsA great submission from Babagannouj:
Villagers were left fearing for their lives after arsonists torched five cars in a single street.
Firefighters described the scene as ‘something out of downtown Beirut’ when they tackled the blazing motors yesterday morning.
In case you are wondering, this is what downtown Beirut looks like to the citizens of Worcestershire:
I’m sorry but this is absolutely not downtown Beirut. In Lebanon, we wouldn’t hit the streets at 3am, under the cover of darkness, to ignite a few cars and run. We’d, under the cover of political connections, light a car and stay around to keep fanning the flames. That’s how we do it:

A Beirut Hole of a Mess
Posted on March 3rd, 2009 No commentsThe “Looks Like Beirut” Award goes to the people of Springhead in the UK:
Frustrated residents today listed a catalogue of misery which has turned their road into “Beirut.”
Homes and bungalows on Belmont Avenue, Springhead, have been marooned by giant holes, exposing gas and water mains, and others have had entrances to garages blocked by excavations and barricades.
Like a broken record, their poor community looks like a war-zone which automatically makes it look like Beirut.
