  • Lebanon’s Chouity Wins Big at the EPT

Posted on May 3rd, 2010 Jad Aoun No comments

Congratulations to Nicolas Chouity for winning and making his country proud:

It was a sweet victory for Nicolas Chouity when he remained the last man standing at the European Poker Monte Carlo Main Event, Friday.
    [...]
With Chouity snagging the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event title, he has displayed strong playing skills that everyone in the poker community in his country is proud of.  Having a singular casino to play poker in, the Lebanese community of poker players is tight-knit and their rallying behind Chouity in the main event paid off handsomely.
Nicolas Chouity is just the 2nd Lebanese player to win in the EPT Main Event, after Joseph Mouawad won in the European Poker Tournament London Season 4.
    [...]
With the prestige of getting the title, Chouity also became richer by 1.7 million EUR.

So apparently you can make a decent living by being a pro in poker. Interesting job; right up there with porn star and performing artist (not necessarily mutual exclusive).

I’m sure you’ve all heard it before. Lebanon boosts the best universities in the Middle East … blah, blah, and so on. Well, I think our selection of higher education has just got better when I found this in my Inbox this morning:

    Poker Classes: Game Theory Lebanon

    Poker Classes: Game Theory Lebanon

In the event you need to sharpen your hands at cards, the “school” offers you 30 one-hour classes over 15 weeks to graduate as a pro. Otherwise, if you just want to have a good time (which is the real reason why you go to university anyway), they are offering a “Poker is Fun” mini-class to cover the basics. The school’s website can be found here and I must say, I thank them for adding a link to Casino du Liban on their website. It would be quite detrimental if I gained my degree in advanced Poker and had no where in Lebanon to try my hand.

Oh, I almost forgot, applications for scholarships are open. You just need to bring in your own deck of cards and the cost of the tuition as your bet.
