Government E-Payment Soon?
Posted on December 30th, 2009 1 commentIt may really happen, though I’m not sure what service you’d pay for online. The European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI) has released a tender for software packages and financial information systems to develop an e-payment mechanism in Lebanon. Don’t have any further details but let’s go through some ideas of what they e-payment system could be used for:
- Paying your electricity bill – yeah right
- Paying your Internet bill – would probably take forever to load the page (this only applies if you are accessing the Internet through legit means)
- Paying your taxes – other than VAT, government wont get a lira from me.
It would be quite fascinating to see if this system comes to life or the software is dump into some ministry file cabinet.

It’s a good try though. You never know people might suddenly embrace this technology. Lebanon is still an emerging market in these technologies and sooner or later they will need this infrastructure.
