Food Fight
Posted on October 11th, 2009 5 commentsThe war with Israel has moved from the battlefields at the border to cooks in kitchens. As Israelimom had pointed out earlier this month:
…an Israeli company has entered the book of Guiness World Records for the largest plate of Hummus.
[...]
…Lebanon is about to retaliate with an even large plate of Hummus in the up and coming food festival in Beirut later this month. And the UAE’s Gulf News has the details of this tit-fot-tat kitchen action.
The [Lebanese Industrialists Association] is arranging a special public ceremony to break Israeli records in downtown Beirut on October 24 and 25. The [largest] hummos plate will be prepared on the first day, and the [largest] tabbouleh the following day.
The organisers put the two-day event’s cost at nearly US$350,000, and about 50,000 spectators are expected to witness the spectacle. Not only that, organizers are trying to break another record – the larest plate – which will be made of clay. What worries me about this is, if the plate actually breaks, will Israelis counter-argue that we have now taken their tradition and made it our own?
Update – October 24, 2009: Lebanese chefs set new record with giant plate of ‘hummos’

Hehe nice to know about the Jewish tradition
. After the Dabkeh and Kebbeh records, it seems like the Lebanese are into breaking records now.

Sometimes a point is worth it (not so sure about this one though).
