“Violence left Llanberis ‘like Beirut’”

Our Looks Like Beirut winner this week is hotelier Mark Bartlett of Llanberis in Gywnedd, North Wales:

Violence broke out in the middle of Llanberis High Street on Saturday night, just as the village was playing host to holidaymakers and supporters of the Snowdon Race, which took place earlier that day.

Gwynedd Hotel owner Mark Bartlett said: “The High Street (in Llanberis) was more like Beirut  – what a terrible impression to give to visitors.

How absolutely terrible! We must be completely blind to the fact that tourists are fleeing Beirut in their thousands. Actually, you’d probably be wishing you had Lebanon’s tourist numbers. Mark, your certificate will arrive by mail.

I can’t believe there are so many people out there who use this expression! Thanks for bringing them out.

@jadaoun Do “sounds like Beirut” contributors get a certificate as well?

Apparently that is the result of 30 years of violence. My work is clearly far from over.
