I had mentioned this building back in May, but now it seems that Englewood’s “Beirut Building” will be dust soon (fingers crossed):

After two decades of failed plans for offices, condos, demolitions and even an artificial reef…the end is near for an Englewood eyesore.

No idea who coined the term “Beirut Building” – the ‘eyesore’ has been standing for over 20 years – so it’s safe to say the building was named after the scene and newsreels beamed out of Lebanon during the early 90s. Without a specific person, I’ll have to pass on the LLB certificate.

Charlotte County commissioners Richard Loftus, from left, Bob Starr and Robert Skidmore, and Deputy Attorney Dan Gallagher speak about the “Beirut building” in Englewood on Friday.
