What do you get when you cross a bicycle, purple paint, a cell phone camera and solar panels? Yahoo!’s Purple Pedal Power.

Yahoo! is sending bikes all over the place, with little Nokia cameras taking pictures every sixty seconds.  Those pictures are then automatically geo-tagged and uploaded to the company’s Flickr photo sharing site.

You can check the photos on Yahoo!’s dedicated PPP blog site. The Yahoo! Bike was actually in Beirut 6 months ago (my focus is on covering current news but since this website did not exist back then and since the project is still ongoing, I’ve decided to cover it).

You can check out the Beirut post and photos. Unfortunately, the powers of the UAE (where I currently reside) have deemed Flickr to be a pornographic website so I couldn’t see the photos myself. Therefore my sarcastic comments on biking in Beirut will have to wait.
